Nino Makhashvili, MD
I hold a medical degree from the Tbilisi State Medical Institute and a diploma in psychiatry from the Institute of Psychiatry in Georgia. After graduating, I started my career in in-patient clinics, and later I was also employed in out-patient clinics. Over the past fourteen years I have worked extensively in the field of social psychiatry and psychotraumatology, administering to IDPs and refugees, prisoners, ex-combatants as well as victims of domestic and interpersonal violence. I have written and edited a variety of books and articles. I am also a founder and president of the Georgian Society of Psychotrauma (GSP). As director of the Global Initiative on Psychiatry-Tbilisi, I am currently occupied with structural changes within the field of mental healthcare in the Caucasus countries.
