Isabel Fernandez
I am a clinical psychologist, and work in Milan. I have trained in cognitive behavioural therapy and I have now been with the faculty of the Italian School of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for nine years, where I provide specialist training in psychotherapy. I have worked as a consultant psychologist at the psychiatric ward of Niguarda Hospital, conducting research projects in the clinical field. I am a lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan and Rome and at Sapienza University. At the present time I am Director of the Psychotraumatology Research Centre of Milan and have published many papers, articles and books on trauma, on EMDR and on research projects in this field. I am an EMDR Europe Approved trainer as well as the chairwoman of the Italian Association of EMDR. In addition, I have directed and organized emergency psychology interventions in natural and incidental disasters (for instance, after the air crash on the Pirelli building in Milan and the earthquake in Molise) and I have worked in cooperation with the Civil Defence and fire workers to provide psychological support concerning stress in emergency workers. I also provide training to psychology graduates, post-graduates and clinicians on trauma and crisis interventions.
I serve on the board of directors of the Italian Federation of Scientific Psychological Societies, and I am the Italian delegate to the Standards Committee on Trauma, Disaster and Crisis of the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations (EFPA).
