BICESTSS
British and Irish Chapter of the
European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies

At the ESTSS Board meeting in Cardiff in October 2003 the first National Chapter of the ESTSS was formed. It is recognised that many individuals from different areas across Europe are keen to be active members of the ESTSS and also to belong to more local societies. The creation of National Chapters will hopefully allow individuals to achieve both these goals without the potential risk of a conflict of interest that can occur by belonging to different societies and also without individuals having to pay multiple subscriptions. All British and Irish members of ESTSS are now automatically members of BICESTSS and receive information about BICESTSS meetings and initiatives. A steering group co-ordinates the activities of BICESTSS and is keen that it develops into the nationally recognised British and Irish forum for traumatic stress issues.
If anyone would like further information about BICESTSS please contact the secretariat, Neil Kitchiner (neil.kitchiner@cardiffandvale.wales.nhs.uk).

BICESTSS Update May, 2007

The ESTSS is planning to develop a Certificate in Traumatic Stress via attendance at ESTSS approved workshops. BICESTSS is therefore developing a one day workshop entitled 'An Introduction to Traumatic Stress'. This workshop will allow individuals to work towards an ESTSS Certificate in Traumatic Stress after completing several additional workshops including the evidence based psychological treatments for traumatic stress etc.

If the certificate is a success the ESTSS hope to develop a Diploma in Traumatic Stress in the future via a 12 month part-time (one day a week) attachment to a Traumatic Stress Service where individuals can undertake specific trauma focused psychological therapy under supervision from an experienced therapist.
