January 12, 2010, at 21:53 UTC, (4:53 pm local time) Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The epicenter of the quake was just off the Haitian capital. Aid from around the world has begun to arrive but it is feared that help will arrive too late for many. ESTSS therefore supports the ways of help ISTSS is promoting. »

Traumatic events like disasters strike the wellbeing of entire communities. In the aftermath of natural and other disasters victims are in need of adequate psychosocial assistance. The TENTS-project is committed to the dissemination across Europe of evidence based practice for the assistance of victims of natural and other disasters. This project is funded by the European Commission, Directorate General Health and Consumer Protection (DG SANCO).". »»

Many different traumatic stress research projects are being conducted throughout Europe. At present there is no central database of these projects which makes it difficult to be aware of what is going on. In order to rectify this the ESTSS has developed a European Traumatic Stress Research Database that we hope will become an accurate source of information regarding traumatic stress research in Europe. It should also allow researchers to develop links with other people with similar interests and hopefully encourage the development of collaborative work in the future. Please visit the database and create an account to register any/all projects you are conducting.
We are very pleased to announce that Prof. Brigitte Leuger Schuster will be the next president of the ESTSS.
Ass. Prof. Dr. Brigitte Lueger-Schuster has been an active ESTSS board member for the past years, has been the Website editor and now is the organizer of the ESTSS conference (ECOTS) 2011 in Vienna. She will take over from Miranda Olff, the current president, in June 2011
